Job Title: Stations Equipment Engineer

Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid)

Estimated Duration: 12 Months

Electrical  Engineer – Stations Equipment X2

Our client is a leading energy utility that generates, purchases, distributes and sells electricity. They are currently looking for an Electrical  Engineer – Stations Equipment for their Burnaby location.

Overview:

The Engineer will be responsible for  the design of electrical utility substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV and demonstrated experience working with utility design solutions a in an electric utility environment.

Role Accountabilities

  • Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with client projects and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).
  • Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
  • Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and client Design Practices.
  • Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.
  • Design for the following Electrical Systems related to Transmission Stations:
  • Ground Grid
  • Site Layout and equipment clearances
  • Control, feeder and compressor buildings
  • Electrical equipment supports
  • Perform various engineering calculations: short-circuit forces, ampacity, cable design, lightning protection, voltage drop, indoor and outdoor lighting, etc.

Education and Skills
 

  • Electrical engineering degree
  • Electrical background with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in substation design
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BC
  • The position requires specialized knowledge of electrical power equipment so the ideal candidate would have some experience with the specification and installation of substation electrical equipment.
  • Experience in one or both of the reactive or switchgear equipment areas is required.
  • Key aspects of the reactive equipment area include:
  • series capacitor stations
  • STATCOMS and power transformers
  • shunt reactors
  • instrument transformers
  • Key aspects of the switchgear equipment area include:
  • HV circuit breakers up to 550kV
  • HV & MV GIS
  • metal clad switchgear
  • circuit switchers
  • disconnect switches
  • fused cutouts

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$85.00 and CA$105.00
