Sr. Hardware Design Engineer

Location: Peterborough, ON (Hybrid)

Estimated Duration: 12 Months

Our client is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to lead the design, development, and verification of cutting-edge electronic systems. This role involves working on high-reliability products, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving innovation in electronic, FPGA, and mechanical design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proposal Support: Prepare estimates, schedules, compliance matrices, and costing for new projects.
  • Hardware Development & Verification: Create and manage development and verification plans based on customer requirements.
  • System Design & Compliance: Design hardware architecture, electronic circuits, and FPGA systems, ensuring compliance with DO-254, EMC/EMI, and reliability standards.
  • Process Development: Develop and implement DO-254 processes and review checklists for structured design and verification.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare cost estimates, reports, and design descriptions for electronic systems.
  • Testing & Debugging: Support installation, testing, and troubleshooting of electronic components and systems.
  • Risk Assessment & FMEA: Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) at both board and component levels.
  • Integration & Deployment: Integrate hardware into embedded systems, test benches, and customer sites.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Lead product development teams, oversee junior designers, and provide technical presentations to customers.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in electronic product design and reliability analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with VHDL, DO-254, DOORS, Orcad, Matlab, and PSPICE (preferred).
  • Background in Control Systems, Avionics, Aerospace, or high-reliability products (a plus).
  • Leadership and management experience in technical teams.
  • Familiarity with RTCA certification standards and structured design environments.
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng) registration in Ontario or ability to obtain it within a year.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Project, Access, Excel).
