Job Title: Senior System Engineer
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)
Estimated Duration: 12 Months
The role is focused on systems integration and interface coordination within large-scale engineering projects. You’ll work closely with design teams, external suppliers, civil partners, and the client to ensure technical alignment across all subsystems, requirements, and contractual obligations.
Key Responsibilities

Develop a thorough understanding of externally supplied subsystems and confirm their compatibility at the overall system level.

Define and manage technical interfaces, maintaining registers, matrices, and associated documentation.

Lead discussions on requirements, scope, and integration matters with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

Support the development of system requirements, maintain traceability, and break them down for allocation to detailed design elements.

Identify and catalogue interfaces based on project architecture, functional breakdown, and contract terms.

Provide coordination support where system elements interact with civil works.

Generate and distribute regular interface coordination reports.

Chair technical meetings and workshops related to integration.

Support technical decision-making across the project lifecycle.

Participate actively in design reviews, internal and client-facing.

Contribute to the execution of system integration and acceptance testing.

Assess impacts of proposed design changes and support configuration management throughout the project.

Ensure adherence to company standards, quality processes, and relevant industry norms (CMMI, IEEE, AREMA, IPC, etc.).

Provide technical input to tenders, budgetary assessments, and stakeholder engagements.
Required Background
-
7+ years in engineering roles, with at least 3 years leading interface, integration, or systems engineering activities.

Experience coordinating packages from external consultants or contractors.

Familiarity with managing civil partners, suppliers, and client stakeholders.

Solid understanding of engineering lifecycles, including hardware/software integration.

Strong working knowledge of tools such as requirements databases (e.g. DOORS), PLM platforms, defect tracking, and configuration tools.

Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional teams across multiple disciplines.

Strong communicator with the ability to simplify complex ideas for various audiences.

Proven problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

Practical experience applying systems engineering practices such as:

Configuration management

System architecture and V-lifecycle methods

Ability to manage priorities across multiple projects simultaneously.

Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Eligible for, or currently holding, a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Ontario (electrical, mechanical, or systems discipline).

Experience with BIM methodologies and digital design coordination.

Prior involvement in rail, transit, or other large-scale infrastructure projects.

Experience collaborating with distributed teams across different geographies.

Familiarity with tools such as ProjectWise, Aconex, and similar platforms.

Ability to pass a background screening.
Education
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent professional experience).
-
P.Eng designation strongly preferred.
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$70.00 and CA$90.00
