Senior OCS (Overhead Catenary System) Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Senior OCS Engineer to join a lively, dynamic, and world-class Rail team. In this senior production role, you will be a vital driver in the “technical engine room,” helping to execute high-profile, large-scale transit design commissions and competitive engineering bids across North America.

This role is focused on the specialized physics, wire geometry, and structural static loading of overhead contact systems. You will be responsible for translating client requirements into technically excellent engineering designs, managing structural integrity, and making definitive technical design decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Ownership: Lead the preparation, production, and verification of OCS Scheme and Detailed Designs, including layout plans, cross-sections, sectioning diagrams, bonding plans, and bills of quantity.

  • Technical Quality Control: Perform and independently check complex OCS engineering calculations, ensuring seamless integration with traction power supply and other key electrification enablers.

  • Client Translation: Take high-level technical briefs from transit authorities and project stakeholders to establish concrete, compliant OCS design requirements.

  • Multidisciplinary Coordination: Work closely with adjacent internal engineering disciplines (Civil, Structural, Power Supply) to integrate catenary designs into complex corridor environments.

  • Field Assessments: Lead asset condition site surveys, field inspections, and engineering reporting to support asset renewal and implementation projects.

  • Bid Support: Collaborating directly with pursuit and bid managers to formulate technical text, estimates, and design approaches for competitive tender submissions.

Core Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: A University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a strictly equivalent technical discipline.

  • Experience Depth: A minimum of 7+ years of dedicated, hands-on experience in a specialized OCS engineering and design capacity. (Exceptional candidates with 5+ years of highly technical design execution will be considered).

  • Engineering Principles: Deep understanding of catenary wire mechanics, cable tension, and structural loading physics (the core focus is on the cable/wire systems rather than general civil structural coordination).

  • Software Competency: Practical, proficient working knowledge of production CAD tools (e.g., Bentley MicroStation) and specialized OCS design/analysis software (such as LinearDraft or ELF).

  • Project Footprint: Proven experience delivering designs for major North American rail corridors, transit stations, or maintenance facilities and yards.

Preferred Highlights (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Active Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Ontario, or clear eligibility to transfer an equivalent regional peer license.

  • Broad electrification exposure across traction power supply networks, distribution grids, or third-rail traction systems.

  • Strong familiarity with localized North American railway infrastructure frameworks, OCS construction methods, and standard installation field practices.

What’s on Offer

  • Comprehensive Protection: 100% company-paid healthcare, welfare benefits, and standard retirement incentives.

  • Impactful Scale: A collaborative, inclusive, and socially conscious environment where you will lead technically challenging work that directly shapes low-carbon, sustainable city infrastructure.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$130,000 and CA$190,000

Our voluntary benefits offering includes medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits.
