Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Mississauga, ON
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This position is for an experienced individual who is extremely self-motivated and looking to further develop his/her career in the nuclear field.
For this specific, the candidate shall have design experience with very good familiarity and experienced with OPG practices, standards and procedures, at Darlington site in particular. The candidate shall be able perform engineering work following our clients QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements as well as coordinate and interface with colleagues and the client to execute assigned engineering work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The qualified individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Perform engineering work following our clients procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines to execute assigned engineering work.
- Become involved in conceptual, preliminary and/or detailed design phases to support CANDU and other Nuclear electrical systems and modifications.
- Prepare technical documents, such as: engineering drawings (including GAs, DDs, EDs), change paper markups, calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, component specification sheets, commissioning specifications, etc.
- Participate in review of interfacing discipline’s documentation.
- Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement.
- Interface and provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters.
- Prepare scope of work and input to bid proposals.
- Perform field walk-downs during different design phases and prepare Walkdown reports as required.
- Assist field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc.
- Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within given budget and schedule, and in good quality.
- Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
- 5-7 years of related work experience in electrical engineering and power systems design in the nuclear industry.
- Good knowledge and experience of CANDU nuclear electrical power systems.
- Good working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as of CSA 22.1, Canadian Electrical Code Part I and The Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC).
- Experience with medium voltage and low voltage power distribution systems, including preparation of Single Line diagrams, Elementary Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams and schedules, and calculation of power demand/ electrical load lists.
- Experience with transformer sizing, cable sizing, circuit breaker sizing calculations.
- Familiar with specifying and procurement support for electrical equipment such as Transformers, MCCs, low voltage distribution load centers, UPS systems including rectifiers and inverters and Diesel Generators (emergency and standby), power and control and instrumentation cables.
- Experience in modelling electrical power systems and use of analysis functions in ETAP, or other similar software program is an asset.
- Shall have fundamental technical knowledge to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
- Shall have excellent communication and technical writing skills and good ability to interact and communicate (both verbal and in writing) professionally with colleagues, clients and contractors.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Site experience in construction, or commissioning of electrical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset; and
- Already is or is willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
