Job Title: SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER 

Location: Barrie, Collingwood, or Guelph, ON (Hybrid)


 

Summary
This role is part of the Electrical team, based in the Barrie area. The position involves design, project management, construction inspection, and administration of electrical projects.

Key areas of work include power distribution for residential subdivisions and building developments, along with related street lighting. The successful candidate may also contribute to projects involving water/wastewater facilities, traffic signal systems, and other infrastructure. Responsibilities will include preparing and implementing designs using CAD software and other digital tools.

The Senior Engineer, Project Manager provides technical leadership, supports business development, and mentors junior staff. This role plays a key part in guiding the project team, overseeing deliverables, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

Duties & Responsibilities

General

  • Prepare engineering design calculations and manage project coordination.

  • Develop drawings for multiple design types, such as base plans, single-line diagrams, riser diagrams, panel layouts, and other electrical schematics.

  • Carry out design work and calculations using appropriate engineering software (e.g., AGi32) and established standards.

  • Produce detailed CAD drawings in line with company templates.

  • Direct and review the work of technicians or junior engineers.

  • Write technical reports and documentation.

  • Organize and conduct site visits to confirm conditions and assess construction progress.

  • Prepare project proposals, including scope, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineering team members.

  • Manage approval submissions, tender documents, cost estimates, and specifications.

  • Perform peer reviews of external design submissions to ensure compliance with applicable standards.

  • Administer construction contracts, including change orders, invoicing, and payment processing.

  • Act as a point of contact with clients and stakeholders.

Project Management

  • Oversee multi-disciplinary project coordination, budgets, schedules, and risk management.

  • Assign tasks to team members and review the work of junior staff.

  • Monitor task budgets and work progress to ensure timely delivery.

  • Prepare and issue client invoices, track project billings, and monitor accounts receivable.

  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures across all projects.

  • Liaise with clients and external agencies, ensuring consultation and approvals are followed up effectively.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario with registration in good standing.

  • At least 8 years of engineering experience, ideally in a consulting or project-based environment.

  • Solid technical design expertise in relevant areas.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant design/analysis software.

  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, guidelines, and standards.

  • Experience with business development considered an asset.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$110,000 and CA$140,000
