Senior Civil Structural Engineer
Contract – 12 Months (Hybrid)
Mississauga, Ontario
Our client is engaged in nuclear civil engineering work involving analysis and design of New Build Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) in Cernavoda 3/4 units in Romania. Civil/Structural engineers are required to perform structural and seismic analysis, seismic margin assessment, and structural design as well as prepare and issue analysis, design, and assessment documents.
- The types of engineering work include structural and seismic analysis, structural design check and assessment of structures, systems, and components. Documentation to be produced include analysis reports, design calculations, design Reports, technical specifications, and design requirements.
- The candidate shall be familiar with the use of one analysis program such as ANSYS APDL, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI, LS-Dyna etc…
- The Candidate ideally shall have previous CANDU or other nuclear technology design and construction experience.
Your role within the team:

- Perform Static, Dynamic, SSI analysis, and structural design.
- Prepare engineering design calculations for structural systems involving steel, reinforced concrete and masonry and prepare design documents and compile engineering packages.
- Analyze structural systems and elements as required using Analysis Software programs using ANSYS APDL, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI, LS-Dyna and other structural programs.
- Ensure Compliance with applicable Codes, Standards and Regulations, and ensuring the adequacy of design for permits and compliance with approved plans.
- Develop conceptual design, preliminary design and detailed design.
- Prepare technical specification documents.
- Accountable for the delivering all engineering deliverables/task to achieve project objectives within specified timelines and budgets.
- Provide technical instructions and mentoring to Junior staff or designers to develop engineering documentation.
- Review and comment on the work performed by the others to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and design documentation.
- Check the work performed meets the quality requirements in accordance with Company QA programs and manuals.
- Participate in formal engineering design and other reviews as may be mandated for the design changes in question.
- Prepare Engineering estimate and technical write-up for proposals.
- Accountable for the delivering all engineering deliverables/task to achieve project objectives within specified timelines and budgets.
- Perform plant walkdowns as and if required in support of design requirements definition and detailed engineering of design modifications.
The ideal candidate:

- Civil Engineering degree from an accredited University with minimum 12 years of structural analysis and design experience in steel and concrete structures in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings. Master degree and above is an asset.
- 3 to 5 years of site or field experience in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings is an asset.
- Must be Licensed in a professional engineering organization recognized in Canada. Preferably registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
- Deep and thorough understanding of structural engineering gained through a combination of design-office and site experience.
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian (CSA N-standards, CSA A23.3, S16, NBCC etc…) and International Codes and standards used in Civil/Structural engineering.
- Thorough knowledge of use of Analysis software commonly used in Civil/Structural engineering such as ANSYS APDL, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI, LS-Dyna etc.
- Previous CANDU or other nuclear technology experience is a must.
- Previous CANDU-6 experience is preferred.
- Must have experience with static, dynamic and seismic analysis of structures and foundations.
- Adequate knowledge of established Nuclear QA guidelines, procedures and practices is preferable.
- Adequate knowledge of applicable nuclear safety codes and regulations is an asset.
- Knowledge of modification process of Nuclear Power Plant; ECC process or similar is an asset.
- Must have good skills in time management and setting priorities.
- Must be able to demonstrate effective organizational skills.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to manage to work effectively under tight schedules and budget.
- Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
- Travel to client site may be required.
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$70.00 and CA$85.00
