The Opportunity

A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a senior Rail Systems Engineering Leader to support major rail and transit programs in Canada.

This role will provide leadership across systems engineering, integration, and multi-disciplinary design coordination on complex transit projects, while also contributing to future business development efforts.

You will act as the systems authority within a Prime Consultant environment, ensuring full integration across engineering disciplines and maintaining alignment with client expectations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead systems engineering processes across rail projects, including:

    • System architecture development

    • Requirements management

    • Systems integration

    • Verification & validation planning

  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams to ensure technical alignment

  • Act as the primary systems interface with clients and stakeholders

  • Drive resolution of cross-discipline design issues

  • Support project managers with scope definition, schedule tracking, and design governance

  • Contribute to proposals and pursuit activities for new rail opportunities

  • Ensure compliance with applicable rail standards and safety certification frameworks


Required Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in rail transit systems design

  • Demonstrated leadership of systems engineering and integration on large-scale transit programs

  • Experience operating within a Prime Consultant or lead designer environment

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Rail signalling principles (including CBTC familiarity)

    • System safety and RAMS processes

    • Design verification and validation

    • Multi-disciplinary engineering coordination

  • Proven ability to lead client-facing technical discussions


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with major capital rail projects (DB, DBFM, PPP environments)

  • Familiarity with international railway standards (e.g., CENELEC, AREMA, IEEE, EN)

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility in Ontario

  • Experience in design-build or integrated project delivery models

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$240,000 and CA$260,000
