Power System Reliability Test Technician

Location: Sarnia, ON (On site)

Estimated Duration: Fulltime

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Power System Reliability Test Technician to join our Reliability Services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing maintenance and reliability testing on critical electrical infrastructure, including transformers, motors, cables, breakers, generators, and protection relays. The ideal candidate will have significant experience with programming and commissioning protection relays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic, assessment and performance testing on electrical equipment such as transformers, bus systems, switchgear, circuit breakers, cable systems, motors, generators, and protection relays that operate at nominal voltages from 120 to 230,000 Volts.
  • Program, calibrate and commission protection relays from all manufacturers including relay coordination and trip testing.
  • Conduct thermographic inspections of electrical equipment.
  • Analyze test results and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Assist in troubleshooting electrical faults and developing preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Work closely with engineers, field technicians, and project managers to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and safety guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field (C.E.T. preferred).
  • 5+ years of proven experience in electrical maintenance, testing, and reliability.
  • Hands-on experience with current industry-standard electrical test equipment and methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of power system protection, including relay settings and coordination.
  • Experience programming and commissioning protection relays is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of electrical safety and performance standards (CSA, IEEE, ANSI/NETA).
  • Proven ability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and technical report-writing skills.
