About the Opportunity

Our client develops custom equipment and specialized electro-mechanical tooling for highly regulated energy and industrial applications.

The organization is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Technician or Mechanical Technologist to support the assembly, troubleshooting, testing and deployment of custom machinery, robotic devices and specialized tooling.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineering and other technical team members to convert custom designs into functional equipment. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys machine building, practical problem-solving and working on varied, one-off systems rather than repetitive production equipment.

What You Will Do

• Prepare purchasing requisitions and receive custom and commercially available components in accordance with established quality requirements.
• Manage component, material and tool tracking and inventory.
• Assemble and support the assembly of custom robotic, mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
• Fit, align and modify mechanical components and assemblies.
• Perform minor modifications to custom components using manual lathes and mills.
• Troubleshoot machinery and mechanisms to determine the root cause of mechanical or electro-mechanical issues.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings and electrical schematics.
• Mark up engineering drawings to document assembly issues, discrepancies or proposed design changes.
• Participate in design-review meetings and provide practical input regarding manufacturability, assembly and maintainability.
• Complete quality and assembly documentation accurately.
• Assist with functional testing and verification of assembled equipment.
• Fabricate prototypes and support the development of custom-engineered systems.
• Work with motors, sensors, cameras, electrical panels, wiring and other electro-mechanical components.
• Travel to customer facilities to support equipment installation, deployment, commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Assist with the operation of completed tooling systems at customer sites.
• Work collaboratively with engineering, project management and other technicians to resolve technical issues.

What You Bring

Required

• A two-year Mechanical Engineering Technician diploma, three-year Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma, Certificate of Qualification as a Machine Tool Builder and Integrator, Tool and Die Maker, Industrial Mechanic Millwright or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Experience assembling, maintaining or troubleshooting custom machinery, specialized tooling or electro-mechanical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
• Experience operating manual lathes and mills.
• Strong practical fabrication, fitting and assembly skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and time-management abilities.
• Self-motivated, organized and comfortable working with limited supervision.
• Willingness to work onsite in Burlington.
• Ability and willingness to travel to customer facilities when required.
• Eligibility to obtain security clearance for access to regulated Canadian energy facilities.

Preferred

• Experience with custom or one-of-a-kind machinery and tooling.
• Experience within the nuclear energy industry.
• Experience with specialized inspection, modification or remote-handling tooling.
• Mechanical Technologist education and experience using CAD software.
• Experience with robotics and industrial automation equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical devices, motors, sensors, cameras and control systems.
• Familiarity with PLC and automation component families such as Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric or Siemens.
• Experience participating in design reviews or providing manufacturability feedback.
• Experience completing formal quality or assembly documentation.
• Experience maintaining or operating equipment in controlled or contaminated environments.
• Previous field-service or customer-site experience.
• Existing nuclear security clearance.
• Ability to travel to the United States.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on, shop-based opportunity within a collaborative technical team.

The group works on custom equipment that varies substantially from project to project. The environment is positive and relatively informal, but employees are passionate about solving customer problems and are expected to maintain high standards of safety, quality and documentation.

The successful candidate should enjoy working closely with others and contributing beyond a narrowly defined set of assigned tasks.
