Mechanical Designer
Location: Peterborough, ON (Onsite)

Our client is a leading supplier of custom, first of a kind equipment, process systems and engineering services for the nuclear industry, globally. We offer complete design services from specification to execution. As part of our growing team, the successful candidate will be responsible, for the design of mechanical systems and/or components both in the traditional nuclear market and in new initiatives to develop nuclear technology and future nuclear-powered systems.
What will you do?
- Develop 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of materials for complex electro-mechanical first of a kind tooling
- Assembly and testing of custom equipment through the design evolution from prototype to finished product
- Assist with the development of test procedures for systems to ensure compliance with design specifications
- Assist with the operation of the final tooling system in the customer facilities
- Providing technical oversight and mentoring of more junior members of the Engineering team
- Performing both classical hand calculations and analysis (including FEA) to qualify systems and/or components against applicable codes & standards
- Preparing clear and concise design reports and technical specifications.
- Driving innovation and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systems
- Collaborating globally within our clients Engineering framework alongside SMEs and nuclear specialists
- Supporting resolution of issues throughout design, manufacture and testing of systems and/or components
What will you bring?
Required:
- Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering from an accredited Canadian institution
- 3+ years of relevant experience
- Extensive experience in conceptual design development, design reviews and engineering change control processes.
- Experience in the design/building of custom equipment typically: robotics, electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience working within 3D CAD systems
- Thorough understanding of manufacturing techniques, welding procedures or specifications and associated inspection techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations.
- Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment.
Preferred:
- Application of the relevant codes and standards applicable to the design of nuclear components and systems including specialized tooling and remote handling equipment
- Experience with software such as Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor and ANSYS(FEA)
- Experience interfacing with customer representatives and also providing oversight of vendors
- Experience with designing ruggedized tooling for harsh environments
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$35.00 and CA$50.00
