Manufacturing Operations Manager
Southwestern Ontario (London area) | Permanent | On-site, Day Shift
The Opportunity
Our client is a growing, owner-operated Canadian manufacturer of non-ferrous castings and precision CNC-machined components, supplying industrial customers across North America. Sales are growing fast and the company has just invested in new equipment. They now need a senior operations leader to make sure the plant can deliver.
You’ll report directly to the President and sit on the senior leadership team. You’ll own day-to-day manufacturing performance across casting, finishing, machining, assembly, maintenance and logistics. You’ll also build the systems, habits and people that make good results repeatable.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and develop five direct reports: the casting, CNC machining, afternoon shift, maintenance/facilities and shipping/receiving leaders
- Own the master production schedule and move the plant to stable, capacity-based scheduling
- Run daily floor walks and scheduling touchpoints, and set priorities across labour, equipment, materials, tooling and outside processing
- Improve on-time delivery, schedule attainment, throughput, lead time and backlog
- Find and manage constraints, cut excess WIP and avoidable overtime, and raise labour productivity
- Reduce scrap, rework, downtime and recurring issues with structured problem-solving
- Set maintenance priorities and improve reliability and utilization on new and existing equipment
- Build 1-month and 3-month operating outlooks and the plans to hit them
- Plan staffing and capacity, and support new product, equipment and automation launches
- Work with Sales, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Finance and HR
- Hold a high bar on safety, quality and housekeeping
How Success Is Measured
Safety (no lost time), schedule attainment and on-time completion, throughput and backlog, labour productivity, scrap and rework, and equipment reliability. You’ll spend months 1 and 2 learning the operation, start acting in month 3, and move the numbers in months 4 to 6.
What You Bring
- 7+ years of progressive manufacturing experience, including leading managers or supervisors across multiple areas or shifts
- A track record of improvements you personally led, backed by measurable results
- Strong production scheduling, capacity planning and flow management skills (constraints, WIP, throughput, utilization)
- Hands-on experience working with maintenance and reliability teams
- A continuous improvement toolkit (Lean / Six Sigma); a Black Belt is an asset
- ERP/MRP experience; Epicor is an asset
- Experience in casting, machining, metalworking, automotive or another complex manufacturing environment is preferred but not required
- A coach who follows through, holds people accountable and doesn’t avoid tough conversations
Why This Role
- Reports directly to the President, with a seat at the senior leadership table
- A mandate to build and lead, with real authority to change how the plant runs
- Visible impact on an ambitious growth plan
- Straight day shift with minimal travel
- About 80% of your time on the floor at first, moving toward a 50/50 split with planning
- $120,000 to $140,000 base, plus a 10 to 15% performance bonus and benefits
