Job Title: Environmental Compliance Lead

They are currently looking for an Environmental Compliance Lead to join their Kamloops team
Overview:
Reporting to the HSEC Manager, the Environmental Compliance Lead is responsible for ensuring that the project adheres to all environmental laws, regulations, and standards. This role involves monitoring project activities, conducting audits, preparing reports, and coordinating with internal teams and HVC operations to maintain environmental compliance and promote sustainability initiatives.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections of facilities and operations.
- Maintain and update environmental permits, records, and documentation.
- Develop and implement environmental policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Coordinate waste management, hazardous materials handling, and pollution prevention strategies.
- Investigate environmental incidents and support corrective action plans.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports (e.g., emissions, waste, water usage).
- Liaise with regulatory agencies and respond to inquiries or inspections through the HVC Environmental Team.
- Support sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Stay current with changes in environmental legislation and best practices.
- Work closely with the Engagement Coordinator to ensure compliance to project engagement commitments.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in environmental compliance or a similar role.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations (e.g., CEPA, BC Environmental Management Act).
- Experience with environmental audits, reporting, and permitting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and environmental management systems.
- Professional certification (e.g., EP, CHMM, or similar).
- Experience in heavy industrial project environments.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 or other environmental management standards.
- Working knowledge of applicable federal and provincial legislation.
- Positive and effective interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
- Excellent planning, problem-solving, and coordination skills.
- Team-oriented but individually driven to produce results.
- Manages personal workload to ensure completion of tasks within schedules.
- Competent with Microsoft Office and data-management software.
- A valid driver’s license and a driver’s abstract are required.
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$52.50 and CA$65.00
