Job Title: Electrical Engineer – Substation design

Location: Vancouver, BC (Remote)
    
Estimated Duration: 12 months

Our client is a leading energy utility that generates, purchases, distributes and sells electricity. They are currently looking for an Electrical Engineer with electrical utility experience  for a part/time  position in their British Columbia location.

Overview:
The Engineer will engage in the engineering of electrical utility systems, specializing in
Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies.

Role Accountabilities

  • Engages in the engineering of electrical utility systems, specializing in
  • Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies.
  •  Performs EMT studies such as transformer energization, motor starting, harmonics
  • analysis, IPP interconnection, load interconnection, and prepares study reports.
  • Engages in modeling of renewable energy inverter-based resources (IBRs), e.g., battery energy storage system (BESS), wind, and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in
  • PSCAD for various studies.
  • Engages in modeling of transformers, circuit breakers, surge arresters, transmission lines, special drives such as VFDs, point-on-wave controllers, and other equipment.
  • Provides necessary support to the planners in the Stations Growth and Sustainment department and other clien groups

Education and Skills

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities. A
  • Master’s degree or higher is an asset.
  • Ten (10+) years or more of experience in a relevant field in electricity utility with demonstrated technical experience.
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC).
  • Knowledge of high voltage equipment up to 500 kV such as transformers, circuit breakers, shunt and series reactors/ capacitors and their applications and performance.
  • Experience in modelling and running PSCAD, EMTP-RV and ASPEN OneLiner.
  •  Knowledge of CSA, IEC and IEEE standards applied to equipment specification and application guides.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication and presentation and leadership skills.
