Job Title: Electrical Engineer (High-Voltage )
Location: Pickering, ON (Hybrid)
Estimated Duration: 12 Months
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nuclear engineering with extensive experience in high-voltage (HV) power systems (13 kV and above), switchyard design and operation, and complex bus configurations including transfer bus schemes. This role requires deep technical expertise, innovative thinking, and a strong commitment to safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
High-Voltage System Design & Engineering:
Lead the design, analysis, and optimization of high-voltage electrical systems (13 kV to transmission-level voltages), including switchyards, substations, and grid interconnections for nuclear power facilities.
Switchyard & Bus Systems Expertise:
Design and support HV switchyard configurations, including transfer buses, breaker-and-a-half schemes, ring bus systems, and main-tie-main arrangements, ensuring high reliability and operational flexibility.
Project Management:
Oversee and manage electrical engineering projects from concept through commissioning, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination of HV equipment procurement and installation.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
Provide expert-level support for HV equipment such as breakers, disconnect switches, transformers, and protection systems. Troubleshoot issues related to power distribution, fault conditions, and system stability.
Protection & Control Systems:
Develop and review protection schemes, relay coordination, and control systems for high-voltage networks, ensuring proper fault detection, isolation, and system integrity.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all electrical systems meet nuclear, utility, and high-voltage safety standards, including arc flash, grounding, and insulation coordination studies.
Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate HV infrastructure with plant systems, grid requirements, and regulatory expectations.
Innovation & Optimization:
Apply modern technologies and methodologies to improve HV system reliability, redundancy, and performance, particularly in critical nuclear applications.
Documentation:
Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including single-line diagrams, protection coordination studies, switchyard layouts, and commissioning procedures.
Training and Mentorship:
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, particularly in high-voltage engineering practices and safety protocols.
