Job Title: Compliance Engineer
Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid)

Our client is a leading energy utility that generates, purchases, distributes and sells electricity. They are currently looking for a Compliance Engineer for their Burnaby location, for a one year assignment
Overview:
The Compliance Engineer performs supervised engineering tasks for assignments of limited scope and complexity using standard procedures and techniques to support projects and/or operations at client safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional customer service by communicating with stakeholders and performing activities such as defining the scope of engineering services to be provided, establishing the basic compliance criteria, approving all related technical documentation, and assessing and reporting on work progress against standards, objectives, and specifications to support completion of projects with adherence to NERC CIP compliance.
- Support the Team Lead in the development and implementation of employee training and development program to maintain/cultivate the required skills and expertise within the Team. Fosters collaboration and knowledge transfer, coaching and mentoring, and organizational awareness.
- Participate or facilitate client’s strategic meetings regarding engineering practices that would enhance CIP program postures by conducting analysis of new or unique Network architecture, Operational Technology device types, or technology by contributing to the development of compliance policy, process, standards, or procedures and by making recommendations related to methodologies and processes to develop future capability at client.
- Chair meetings to address engineering and compliance problems, attends and addresses seminars, courses, meetings, and conferences, and prepares and delivers presentations to various audiences.
- Assist project or operations management to meet CIP compliance and sustainability objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, reviewing renewal or new sustainment contracts with vendors, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.
- Develop and enhance sustainable CIP compliance processes and workflows, reviews procedures, and quality assurance practices. Ensures adherence to NERC CIP requirements, client and industry standards, policies, practices, and procedures. This involves participating in violation investigations, root cause analysis, and violation mitigation plan development or internal compliance assurance activities.
- Participate and review annual CIP Compliance activities and deliverables (e.g. self-certification, audit, vulnerability assessment, etc.)
- Coordinate technical work activities, provides instructions, advice and technical guidance to other engineers, project, technical and administrative staff.
- Peer review work of other engineers or designers to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results, and adherence to NERC CIP compliance practices.
Resolve site queries, reviewing field evidence, and issuing connection coversheets during the construction phase of projects.
- Maintain complete compliance documentation with respect to the Transmission Stations NERC CIP processes, including all relevant attestations, field records, and key documents.
- Fulfill functional role of CIP Compliance Engineer as assigned, maintain appropriate commitments to project teams, and coordinates compliance activities with multi-disciplined project team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities. Preferred areas of study include computer engineering, control systems, telecommunications, systems engineering, or power engineering.
- Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Registered Engineer-in-Training or Geoscientist-in-Training with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC). The individual shall be proficient with EGBC quality management guidelines, continuing education requirements and code of ethics.
- A minimum two (2) years of in a relevant engineering field
- Strong experience in NERC CIP compliance and cyber security for ICS infrastructure/environment is an asset.
- Excellent leadership, communications (verbal and written), technical writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills are required.
- Good understanding of project and task management processes.
- Prior experience with Microsoft Excel Visual Basic for Applications, Microsoft Access, data analytics, scripting in PowerShell or Python, and port scanning of Operation Technology devices highly preferred.
