Job Title:   Communications Specialist III
Location: North York, Ontario (Hybrid 3 days Onsite a week)
Contract Duration: 1 year

High Level Description
Responsible for providing strategic planning, coordination and execution for the company’s external corporate communications and advocacy, media relations, crisis communications, brand, and leadership and development of three direct reports with a focus on the LDC in Ontario.
 
Specific Accountabilities

  • Support in completing communication strategies to address emerging issues, protect the company's reputation, and manage risks.
  • Research, write, edit, and distribute communications products such as news releases, advisories, speeches and key messages.
  • Lead external communications, engagement, and advocacy plans to support business objectives.
  • Develop and deliver media relations strategies for business initiatives, including proactive media outreach, and timely responses.
  • Assess and respond to incoming media enquiries, develop key messages, coach company spokespeople, and prepare for interviews.
  • Participate as a member of the Crisis Communications Team.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with a network of internal stakeholders and subject matter experts

Required: 

  • Post-secondary education with 7 to 10 years’ progressive experience in a public affairs environment or external communications role, including media relations, issues management, advocacy, and crisis communications. Combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong understanding of the media landscape in the energy industry and related regulatory, policy, social, and economic environment. Public relations agency experience will be an asset.
  • You have outstanding presentation skills and influence in meetings with experience as a company spokesperson.
  • You can communicate sophisticated messages to diverse audiences and adapt key messages for your audience.
  • A confident individual with good judgment and integrity.
  • Works well under tight deadlines, under pressure, and able to handle ambiguity.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Superior writing skills.
  • Demonstrated comfort using emerging AI tools and technologies to enhance productivity, streamline work, and support data-informed decision-making.
  • Ability to travel within Ontario.

 
Preferred:

  • Professional communication accreditation would be an asset (IABC-ABC or equivalent)
  • Able to set priorities effectively – manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Able to thrive in a fast, results-driven environment while maintaining a longer-term strategic perspective

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$40.00 and CA$45.00
