Civil / Geotechnical Site Engineer
Our client is a leading energy utility that generates, purchases, distributes, and sells electricity. They are currently seeking a Civil / Geotechnical Engineer for their Victoria, BC location.
Overview:
Site Engineer with a civil/geotechnical background and experience in underground utility construction and design.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of engineering design documentation, including design basis reports, scopes of work, construction work packages, and material take-offs.
- Develop, review, and coordinate civil engineering design drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams to ensure alignment with project requirements, constructability, and schedule objectives.
- Support route selection studies and identify potential conflicts during daylighting and early project investigation phases.
- Perform constructability assessments and participate in inspections throughout various stages of the project lifecycle.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), Substitution/Equivalency Requests (SRQs), issuing field instructions, and conducting field reviews on behalf of the Engineer of Record.
- Conduct regular construction site inspections to verify compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, codes, and applicable standards.
- Perform design reviews, construction inspections, and contract administration duties as required.
- Carry out reviews of contractor’s deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, including site inspection reports, field review reports, deficiency lists, and inspection logs.
- Document construction progress, non-conformances, corrective actions, and communicate findings to the project team.
- Assist with commissioning activities and the preparation of project close-out documentation, including as-built drawings, design conformance certificates, and construction completion reports.
- Liaise with construction management, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to support safe, compliant, and successful project delivery.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- P.Eng. designation with experience practicing in British Columbia.
- Minimum 8 years of experience as a civil/geotechnical engineer.
- Experience in underground utility construction.
- First Aid training; Transportation Endorsement is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license.
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$65.50 and CA$81.00
