Baggage Handling System (BHS) Design Manager
Location – Toronto, ON (On-site, 5 days/week)

We are seeking an experienced Baggage Handling System Design Manager to join a high-profile airport infrastructure team based in Toronto. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring presence at the client’s office five days per week.

The successful candidate will apply their expertise across various stages of airport baggage handling system projects. This includes everything from initial requirements gathering through design and coordination, to testing, commissioning, and project close-out. The role involves overseeing design solutions across mechanical, electrical, automation, controls, computing, and network systems for departing, connecting, and arriving baggage flows.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary design activities in collaboration with the main contractor and internal teams.

  • Oversee pre-construction services, including planning, design phases, site development, permitting, and procurement support.

  • Act as a primary interface with the client, providing technical guidance, subject matter expertise, and strategic design advice throughout all project phases.

  • Manage design consultancy agreements, ensuring technical deliverables meet project requirements in terms of scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Facilitate design reviews, capturing and coordinating stakeholder input efficiently.

  • Liaise with external stakeholder groups including airlines, agencies, and regulatory authorities.

  • Provide senior leadership with regular progress and performance reports, including risk and opportunity assessments.

  • Manage client review and approval of design phases, ensuring smooth transition to construction teams.

  • Offer technical support during construction, ensuring alignment with planning and design intent.

  • Conduct quality reviews to ensure compliance with scope and requirements.

  • Mentor, coach, and support the professional development of internal staff involved in the program.


Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in large-scale capital programs, particularly in design or engineering management roles focused on terminal renovation or improvement programs.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit; familiarity with MicroStation, BIM, or Civil 3D is an asset.

  • Strong experience in design review and coordination of multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Solid understanding of program development, including scope definition, cost estimation, scheduling, and risk assessment.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and facilitation skills, including leading large workshops or meetings.

  • Strong problem-solving ability with the use of data-driven analysis and solution development.

  • Experience managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing executive-level reporting.

  • Degree in Engineering or Architecture; a relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
