Job Title: Automation Engineer – NIA

Our client is a leading energy utility that generates, purchases, distributes and sells electricity. They are currently looking for an Electrical Automation & Controls Engineer for their Burnaby location.

Overview:

Our client is looking for an Automation Engineer to be the Professional of Record or Owners Engineer in Automation, Protection and Control disciplines for all of NIA’s generation & energy storage facilities

Responsibilities:
 

  • Design, program, troubleshoot and commission a wide variety of intelligent electronic devices including: Generator and station PLC’s and HMI’s, Fuel system PLC’s, Governor controls, SCADA systems, Protection relays and communication devices, Microgrid controllers
  • Prepare technical documentation including control narratives, specifications, standards, hazard logs, inspection & test plans, test procedures & reports, installation & commissioning procedures, operation & maintenance procedures, condition assessment reports, drawings and cable schedules
  • Witness factory acceptance testing and oversee site installation and commissioning of diesel gensets, battery energy storage systems and associated equipment.
  • Work with electrical maintenance crews and CPC Technologists to sign off on repair and re-commissioning of protection, control and automation devices.

Experience:
 

  • Electrical Engineer
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BC
  • In depth technical knowledge in the design and implementation of control and automation systems, including PLC programming (IEC 61131-3 Programming Languages – Ladder Diagram, Functional Block Diagrams, and Structured Text), intelligent electronic devices, and HMI integration for electrical utility substations or equivalent critical infrastructure and inherently safe systems.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of diesel and hydro-electric generation
  • Proven ability to work well with peers and crews
  • Experience with the following PLC/HMI/SCADA/IED manufacturers:
    • Allen Bradley
    • Siemen
    • Schneider
    • SEL
    • Wonderware

 

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between ¤85.00 and ¤105.00
