Job Title: Financial Analyst IV
Location: North York, ON (Hybrid Onsite 3 days a week)
Contract duration: 12 months

High Level Description

  • Responsible for the performance and oversight of month-end activities, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for the assigned Business Unit or Central Function groups, ensuring alignment with established expectations and targets.
  • Accountable for monthly reporting to Senior Leadership on financial information, including Budgets, Forecasts, and Actuals, with recommended mitigation strategies to meet financial targets.
  • Support the O&M Manager and Supervisors by providing active financial counsel and assistance to the business, ensuring informed decision-making aligned with financial goals.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Responsible for performance and oversight of month-end activities, budgeting, forecasting, and all variance analysis for an assigned Business Unit, including managing Operations and
  • Maintenance (O&M) costs, and synergies to meet established expectations and targets.
  • Accountable for monthly reporting to VPs, and Senior Leadership on financial information related to Budgets, Forecasts, and Actuals, with recommended mitigation strategies to achieve financial targets.
  • Assist O&M Manager and Supervisors, and SVP Leads in providing active financial support and counsel to the business.
  • Serve as the Finance Lead for a specific VP or group of Directors, offering financial support, analysis, and interpretation of financial and operational performance on a timely basis to various operating groups, to support their business and strategic decisions.
  • Recommend and provide, where necessary, a streamlined and standardized approach to analytics within the operating groups, addressing dependencies that impact financial outcomes across Gas Distribution & Storage (GDS) in a timely manner.
  • Build relationships with operating groups, especially individuals responsible for compiling and assessing financial data, including forecasts, to understand and validate the processes they use in generating outputs.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the business area by attending department meetings and fostering relationships with clients.
  • Assist with inputs to support periodic forecasts, the annual budget cycle, and long-range planning processes.
  • Provide ad hoc and off-cycle data, reporting, and analysis as requested, ensuring the delivery of accurate and relevant information for management decision-making.
  • Ensure financial reporting and tracking are consistent with the Regulatory framework.
    Support key SOX controls and Audit requirements.
  • Continually assist the team in identifying, assessing, mitigating, remediating, and managing risk exposures.
  • Help communicate and raise awareness of Company policies and changes within other departments at GDS.
  • Provide support and engage in initiatives to drive process and system enhancements within GDS Finance.
  • Assist with additional responsibilities as required for the role.

Scope/Dimensions

  • Manage the department’s operating budget, including oversight of the overall O&M budget of dollars.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and compliance with SOX requirements.
  • Lead the development of process enhancements and system improvements to increase efficiency within GDS Finance.
  • Generate and recommend strategies to meet financial targets, including cost-efficiency measures and, where applicable, revenue-generating ideas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:

  • University degree in Business required.
  • Finance-related designation (CMA, CA, CPA, CGA, or MBA) preferred.
  • 5+ years of post-qualification experience in business performance analytics roles.
  • Highly analytical with strong financial modelling skills and the ability to effectively communicate findings and recommendations to internal groups and budget owners in a meaningful business context.
  • Proficient working knowledge of SAP, Oracle and Power BI preferred.
  • Strong business acumen with an understanding of regulatory environments, financial management strategies, and reporting requirements.
  • Proven team player with the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated competencies in interpersonal skills, oral and written communication, persuasion, and influencing.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in prioritizing work and implementing processes for ongoing improvements to streamline and optimize workflows.
  • Experience working within a regulatory environment preferred.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$50.00 and CA$55.00
