Microwave & OTS Design Engineer (X2)
Our client is a leading energy utility that generates, purchases, distributes and sells electricity. They are currently looking for a Microwave Design Engineer for their Burnaby location.
Overview:
The Microwave & OTS Design Engineer in this role will be responsible for providing expert technical solutions for medium-to-high complexity telecommunications projects. You will be responsible for the planning, design, and quality management of point-to-point microwave networks and Optical Transport Systems (OTS) to ensure the safety and reliability of the organizations critical infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning and deployment of point-to-point microwave networks, including frequency planning, link budget calculations, site selection, and path surveys.
- Resolve highly technical and unusual field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting complex data.
- Develop and apply engineering standards, conduct technical design reviews, and ensure all solutions align with ’s Quality Management Pillar.
- Assist management in meeting safety, cost, and timeline objectives by proposing plan changes, estimating costs, and coordinating work schedules.
- Provide guidance and technical advice to other engineering professionals to develop future capability within the team.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.
- Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
- A minimum of 8 years of progressive and comprehensive engineering experience in the design and engineering of telecommunications systems.
- In depth technical knowledge in the planning and deployment of point to point microwave networks including frequency planning, link budget calculations, site selection and path survey.
- Experience in development and application of engineering standards, technical report writing, and the ability to undertake technical design reviews.
- Strong knowledge of Microwave & OTN transport Equipment is required
- Understanding IP networking and MPLS technologies is desirable
- Excellent leadership, communications (verbal and written), technical writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills are required.
- Good understanding of project and task management processes.
- Proactive in ongoing professional and personal development activities such as self-study, attendance at technical and administrative courses and participation in technical and professional societies.
- Excellent organizational and management skills. Must be a self-starter.
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$83.00 and CA$103.00
