Job Title: Cost Control Specialist I Location: North York, ON (Hybrid)

Job Summary
Provides cost control and project controls support to project management teams by tracking, analyzing, and reporting project financial performance. The role ensures cost control processes are applied consistently, supports project governance activities, and liaises with finance and project stakeholders to maintain accurate project cost management, forecasting, and reporting.
Job Responsibilities
Cost Control & Project Support

Daily and weekly tracking and reconciliation of project costs based on source documents in accordance with established improvement processes and procedures.

Review, code, and track invoices to ensure accuracy and proper cost allocation to the project work breakdown structure (WBS).

Update project cost trackers using multiple data sources (financial systems, invoices, purchase orders, vendor communications, etc.).

Review costs billed to projects and follow up with project teams, finance, third parties, or other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies.

Perform monthly accruals and inter-company billing as required.

Arrange weekly project controls meetings and prepare meeting minutes.

Provide capital cost control, variance analysis, and reporting for multiple complex and multi-disciplinary projects.

Prepare reports and presentations to support project teams and stakeholders regarding budget and cost status.

Track scope changes and maintain change logs.

Ensure sanctioned cost control processes are applied throughout project execution.

Work closely with project managers, finance teams, and other stakeholders on cost-related responsibilities.

Capture relevant project data to support benchmarking and continuous improvement.
Operational & Administrative Support

Communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.

Identify innovative solutions to project controls and process challenges.

Coordinate administrative matters including documentation, filing, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Provide regular updates to management through the assigned project management team.

Adapt strategies as needed to meet evolving project and departmental needs.

Ensure project teams leverage standardized cost and project control processes.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications

Related university degree or relevant field operations experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Thorough understanding of operations procedures and policies.

Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Proven ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software.

Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.

Project Management Professional (PMP), AACE certification, and/or Professional Engineering designation considered an asset.

Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office and enterprise financial systems.

Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and resolve issues efficiently.

Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats.

Compensation and job level commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$27.00 and CA$32.00
