Job Title: Rail Operations and Maintenance Leader

Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)

An international engineering consultancy is seeking a Rail Operations and Maintenance Leader to provide strategic leadership across major rail programs in Canada. This is a senior role responsible for rail operations planning, operational assurance, interdisciplinary coordination, and team leadership on complex, high-profile transit projects.

The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to clients, lead operational strategy and delivery, and play a key role in mentoring and developing rail operations professionals while contributing to business growth and proposal development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead rail operations planning and delivery on major urban rail projects

  • Provide technical leadership across service planning, operations modelling, maintenance strategy, and costing

  • Oversee quality, assurance, and documentation related to rail operations

  • Support proposals, business cases, and feasibility studies

  • Act as senior client interface and trusted operational advisor

  • Mentor and develop rail operations staff from both technical and commercial perspectives

  • Contribute to national rail strategy, standards, and leadership initiatives


Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience)

  • 15+ years’ experience in rail operations within the rail/transit sector

  • Proven leadership experience in a consulting or advisory environment

  • Strong knowledge of:

  • Rail service planning and operating plans

  • Maintenance planning (fleet, stations, infrastructure)

  • Rail operations simulation and modelling

  • Operations cost estimating (top-down and bottom-up)

  • Rail asset management and regulatory frameworks


Additional Experience (Highly Valued)

  • Experience with DB, DBFM, PPP, or DBOFM project delivery models

  • Rail systems assurance, integration, and V&V exposure

  • Business case development and strategic advisory work

  • Experience establishing operational or technical standards

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$240,000 and CA$260,000
