Telecommunications System Design Engineer 

Our client is a leading energy utility that generates, purchases, distributes and sells electricity. They are currently looking for a Telecommunications System Design Engineer for their Burnaby location.

Overview:

Our client is looking for a Telecom Design  Engineer who will support and design their telecom IP/MPLS network focusing on ensuring reliable, deterministic performance for mission-critical applications with IP/MPLS QoS and Traffic engineering architectural design, implementation and configuration

Responsibilities:
 

  • Provide preliminary and detailed design packages for telecom projects involving microwave communication, channel banks, SONET multiplexer, teleprotection, fiber optic networks, C band/Ku band satellite, Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio, Power Line Carrier, -48 VDC Power systems, and IP/MPLS networks.
  • Prepare technical specifications, test plans and commissioning documents for the installation of IP/MPLS routers and cards
  • Design and Configure Nokia IP/MPLS and Cisco IP/Firewall routers and other related routers/switches, LTE CPEs. Setup Lab to execute IP/MPLS test plan
  •  Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including developing designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications for client projects and operations.
  • Assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.
  • Resolve highly technical and unique design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and analysis, exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs to support successful operations and/or project completion at client.

Experience:       
 

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC). The individual shall be proficient with EGBC quality management guidelines, continuing education requirements and code of ethics.
  • P.Eng
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive and comprehensive engineering experience in the design and engineering of telecommunications systems
  • Must have Nokia NRS II or Nokia Certified Service Routing Architect (SRA).
  • Solid electric utility engineering background with the ability to think from a transmission system and operations perspective as well as an ability to understand the interactions and priorities of multi-discipline projects
  • Good working knowledge project management principles and roles
  • Good working knowledge of design, substations, protection, control, and telecom systems, an asset
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal, influencing, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent leadership, communications (verbal and written), technical writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills are required.
  • Good understanding of project and task management processes.

 

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$97.50 and CA$120.50
