Job Title: Telecom System Design Engineer

Our client is a leading energy utility that generates, purchases, distributes and sells electricity. They are currently looking for a Telecommunications System Design Engineer for their Burnaby location. Pay rate is $98.00 per hour
Overview:
Our client is looking for a Telecom Design Engineer who will perform system / facility design, solution and device test and standardization of telecommunications network focusing on IP/MPLS networks to support project / sustainment activities.
Responsibilities:
- Provide preliminary and detailed design packages for telecom projects involving microwave communication, channel banks, SONET multiplexer, teleprotection, fiber optic networks, C band/Ku band satellite, Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio, Power Line Carrier, -48 VDC Power systems, and IP/MPLS networks.
- Prepare technical specifications, test plans and commissioning documents for the installation of IP/MPLS routers and cards
- Design and Configure Nokia IP/MPLS and Cisco IP/Firewall routers and other related routers/switches, LTE CPEs. Setup Lab to execute IP/MPLS test plan
- Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including developing designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications for client projects and operations.
- Assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.
- Resolve highly technical and unique design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and analysis, exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs to support successful operations and/or project completion at client.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.
- Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC). The individual shall be proficient with EGBC quality management guidelines, continuing education requirements and code of ethics.
- A minimum of 8 years of progressive and comprehensive engineering experience in the design and engineering of telecommunications systems
- Proactive in ongoing professional and personal development activities such as self-study, attendance at technical and administrative courses and participation in technical and professional societies.
- Excellent leadership, communications (verbal and written), technical writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills are required.
- Good understanding of project and task management processes.
- Prior experience with IP/MPLS, LTE, WiMAX, DACS, SONET, microwave systems, teleprotection circuits, antennas and towers, grounding, and other telecom technologies will be considered an asset.
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$79.00 and CA$98.00
