Logistics Supervisor

Overview

We are seeking a skilled Logistics Supervisor to lead all aspects of materials planning, inventory control, and logistics operations within a just-in-time (JIT) / just-in-sequence (JIS) manufacturing environment.
This position is responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of materials, accurate inventory management, and smooth coordination between logistics, production, and quality teams.

The successful candidate will bring proven leadership experience, strong organizational and communication skills, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, unionized production setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily logistics operations to ensure 100% on-time delivery of finished products and materials to production lines.

  • Oversee receiving, storage, and distribution of incoming goods, ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.

  • Manage warehouse organization and inventory accuracy through effective space utilization and adherence to FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.

  • Coordinate material handling activities, including container and pallet management, to ensure smooth material flow.

  • Lead and train logistics personnel on IT applications, scanners, and internal logistics systems.

  • Maintain open communication with production, maintenance, and quality departments to prevent downtime and material shortages.

  • Ensure all shipping and receiving documentation (ASNs, serial number labels, customs forms, etc.) are accurate and compliant.

  • Plan and coordinate inbound/outbound shipments, including customs documentation and communication with freight forwarders and brokers.

  • Conduct and participate in audit activities including material coverage, FIFO, safety inspections, inventory counts, and layered audits.

  • Monitor and report daily material requirements; support PPAP and PSO activities as required.

  • Train and supervise forklift operators and material handlers, ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards.

  • Manage and motivate team members, handle grievances, and support HR with administration of the collective agreement.

  • Support continuous improvement (WCM / Kaizen) initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce waste.

  • Maintain compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and other customer-specific quality standards.

  • Uphold all health, safety, and environmental regulations, including participation in ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 programs.

  • Empowered to stop production in the event of a safety or quality concern, following appropriate escalation protocols.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall logistics and plant objectives.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma (OSSD) required; post-secondary education in a relevant discipline preferred.

  • Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years in a materials or logistics supervisory role, ideally within a manufacturing environment.

  • Previous experience in JIT/JIS operations and Tier 1 automotive environments preferred.

  • Demonstrated success managing teams in a unionized workplace.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with SAP (Warehouse Management / MRO modules) or similar ERP systems.

  • Knowledge of inventory control systems, customs documentation, and freight coordination.

  • Strong understanding of IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and CSR compliance requirements.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word).

  • Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving ability (8D / 5-Why methodologies).

  • High attention to detail, with an emphasis on accuracy and accountability.

  • Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.


    Preferred Assets

    • Certification or training through APICS or PMAC.

    • Prior experience managing Chrysler / OEM material flow systems.

    • Multilingual abilities (English required; German an asset).

    • Familiarity with workplace legislation (OHSA, work refusal procedures).


    Working Conditions

    • Fast-paced manufacturing environment operating under JIT/JIS principles.

    • May require overtime or weekend work during peak production or inventory periods.

    • Regular interaction with suppliers, freight companies, and internal departments.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$68.00 and CA$78.00
