Production Supervisor

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations in a high-volume, just-in-time / just-in-sequence production environment.
This role is responsible for coordinating people, processes, and performance to ensure safety, quality, and delivery objectives are achieved on the production floor.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills who thrives in a fast-paced, unionized setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate production activities to ensure on-time, in-sequence delivery of components.

  • Lead a team of production employees, promoting collaboration, accountability, and performance excellence.

  • Drive compliance with all health, safety, and environmental requirements; take every reasonable precaution to protect worker well-being.

  • Monitor production metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to achieve plant targets for efficiency, quality, scrap, and rework reduction.

  • Resolve production issues through root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Maintain effective communication with cross-functional departments including Maintenance, Quality, Logistics, and HR.

  • Administer the collective agreement and support grievance processes in partnership with HR.

  • Oversee the use of time and attendance systems and ensure proper recordkeeping.

  • Participate in and support Lean Manufacturing / WCM / Kaizen initiatives.

  • Conduct Layered Process Audits (LPAs) and ensure timely resolution of identified issues.

  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and Customer Specific Requirements (CSR) standards.

  • Lead or participate in safety and environmental initiatives, including support for ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 certifications.

  • Empowered to stop production in the event of a serious safety or quality concern, following established escalation protocols.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support continuous improvement and plant objectives.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma (OSSD) required; post-secondary education in a related technical or business field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive industry preferred).

  • Proven ability to lead in a unionized production setting.

  • Experience working with PLC-controlled equipment and troubleshooting production processes.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Familiarity with SAP or other MRP/ERP systems.

  • Knowledge of shop floor systems and material flow (FIFO) principles.

  • Understanding of ISO / IATF standards and environmental management systems.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities (e.g., 8D methodology).

  • Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and conflict resolution skills.

    Working Conditions

    • Experience with Tier 1 automotive manufacturing or OEM programs.

    • Prior exposure to DCX / OEM quality systems.

    • Knowledge of workplace legislation (OHSA, work refusal procedures).

    • Multilingual abilities (English required; German or Spanish an asset).

    • Fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment.

    • May require overtime or weekend coverage during peak production or maintenance periods.

    • Regular interaction with employees, contractors, and external stakeholders.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$68,000 and CA$78,000
