Associate Engineer / Technical Officer – Mechanical

A leading Canadian organization responsible for the long-term management and design of complex engineered systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Technical Officer to join its multidisciplinary team. This role will focus on the design, analysis, and implementation of advanced mechanical systems and components that form part of a large-scale, safety-critical infrastructure program.
About the Role
Working within a collaborative engineering environment, the successful candidate will support the design and development of mechanical systems and equipment—covering concept development, CAD modeling, design documentation, testing, and supplier coordination. The position also involves supporting procurement, contract oversight, and design validation activities.
Key Responsibilities

Develop conceptual and detailed designs for mechanical components and equipment using tools such as SolidWorks.

Prepare design documentation, including requirements, drawings, specifications, and reports.

Support the procurement and management of technical services, ensuring quality and compliance with engineering standards.

Review and guide contractor performance on design, prototyping, and testing projects.

Coordinate across engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and consistent design outcomes.

Communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences and contribute to stakeholder engagement activities.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s an asset).

4–6 years of experience in mechanical and systems design or project engineering.

Proficiency in CAD modeling (SolidWorks or equivalent) and technical drawing preparation.

Experience preparing design documentation and familiarity with GD&T and ASME standards.

Strong organizational skills, initiative, and ability to manage multiple technical priorities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of engaging across technical and stakeholder groups.

Eligible to work in Canada and able to meet security clearance requirements.
Assets:

P.Eng. designation (or eligibility).

Experience with pressure vessel or containment design, finite element analysis, or heavy equipment systems.

Familiarity with nuclear or other regulated industry standards (e.g., ASME BPVC, CSA, ISO).

Knowledge of manufacturing, materials, and inspection processes.
