Outage Manager – Steam Turbine Outages

Overview
Our client, a leader in the energy sector, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technical Field Advisor to support major outage and maintenance programs on steam turbine systems. This role will be instrumental in planning and executing site activities tied to turbine overhauls, inspections, and refurbishment work, ensuring technical quality, safety, and schedule adherence.


Key Responsibilities

  • Outage & Maintenance Execution

  • Oversee turbine outage activities including inspections, disassembly/reassembly, and refurbishment of key components.

  • Coordinate outage schedules and resources to ensure alignment with project milestones and client requirements.

  • Field Supervision & Coordination

  • Lead and monitor on-site activities related to turbine maintenance, upgrades, and component replacement.

  • Supervise contractors and craft teams, ensuring critical tasks (e.g., alignment, clearances, dimensional checks) are executed properly.

  • Technical Troubleshooting & Repairs

  • Apply technical expertise to identify, assess, and resolve equipment issues during outages and maintenance campaigns.

  • Support refurbishment and component replacement to extend lifecycle performance of turbine systems.

  • Client & Stakeholder Interface

  • Act as a primary point of contact for technical discussions, providing guidance on outage scope, sequencing, and technical risks.

  • Advise on safe work practices and technical solutions to ensure smooth outage execution.

  • Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare job status updates, outage reports, and technical documentation.

  • Track progress, manpower hours, and material usage to ensure project control and transparency.

  • Team Leadership & Knowledge Transfer

  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and field staff.

  • Share technical know-how on turbine maintenance and outage execution best practices.

  • Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a strong safety culture on site, ensuring compliance with all nuclear and energy sector safety protocols.


    Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience supporting steam turbine outages, overhauls, or major maintenance campaigns.

  • Background in turbine disassembly/reassembly, refurbishment, and component inspections.

  • Strong site management and outage coordination skills.

  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues under outage timelines.

  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.

  • Comfortable working in high-compliance environments (nuclear or energy sector).

  • Strong safety mindset and commitment to quality execution.

 

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$80.00 and CA$90.00
