Our client is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups. We have been providing a wide range of services to the nuclear industry in Canada and around the world since for more than 60 years. 

 

Reporting to the Director of Reactor Components and Mechanical Engineering Division, the Technical Engineering Manager – Mechanical Design will be assigned to work on a new large CANDU design project and will laterally report to the Project Technical Director (PTD).

Technical Engineering Manager – Mechanical Design will be responsible for all aspects of engineering, as it relates to design engineering of reactivity control units for the assigned project.

 

Your role within the team:

  • Providing technical leadership in Reactivity Control Units design engineering including the preparation of the technical specifications, drawings, design specifications, bill of materials, and design certifications.
  • Responsible for developing project scope and deliverable definition in compliance with the governing contract documents, quality requirements for the project and any additional customer requirements.
  • Making decision/recommendation with respect to resourcing requirements on the project and work with the relevant functional managers who will assign the engineering resources.
  • Ensuring that an appropriate combination of skills and experience is maintained within the project to be able to provide technical leadership and specialized expertise as required to support the project.
  • Making recommendations on human resource issues and effectively manage and resolve work performance problems as they relate to the project. Providing technical staff with clear expectations and performance measures, meaningful feedback, and recognizing and rewarding achievements.
  • Fostering a good working relationship with staff, and managers in the Reactor Components and Mechanical Engineering Divisions as well as other Divisions.
  • Working with the Project Manager (PM) to plan the work, ensuring resource availability and allocation, assigning tasks and progress reporting against deliverables.
  • Reviewing and approving project related documents/drawings and ensuring technical work are performed in accordance with applicable codes and standards and company quality assurance manual.
  • Ensuring that the activities are executed in accordance with the specified requirements on-time and within budget.
  • Interfacing with internal and external customers and stakeholders to establish the priorities and ensure leads and staff are working on the prioritized scope of work.
  • Provide strong leadership within the project team, and within the company for aspects related to Reactivity Control Units engineering.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and project stakeholders.

 

The ideal candidate:

  • University bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of 10 years technical experience in the CANDU Reactor field.
  • Qualification in ASME III appendix XXIII is beneficial.
  • Experience in stress analysis and FEA methods alongside other design activities is recommended.
  • Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (or eligible for registration).
  • Overall understanding of the CANDU reactor design.
  • Familiarity with CSA N285/ASME Section III pressure boundary design.
  • Demonstrated skills in the leadership of a highly technical group.
  • Demonstrated people skills to interact with external clients and organizations.
  • Understanding of quality assurance manuals and procedures.
  • Knowledge in finite element analysis techniques and codes such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA will be beneficial.
  • Ability to resolve technical issues.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Willing to visit project site to meet project and operational needs.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$0.00 and CA$170,000
