Location – Toronto, ON (On-site)
Estimated Duration: Fulltime

An opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team in Toronto. In this key leadership role, you will serve as a technical lead on major infrastructure projects—guiding initiatives from the early definition of needs through to final commissioning. Reporting to the Automation Manager, this role also acts as deputy manager within the automation discipline, helping drive innovation, technical excellence, and team guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee control and specialty systems throughout all project phases, including programmable logic controller (PLC) systems, low-voltage (LV), and high-voltage (HV) infrastructure.

  • Lead controls-related activities through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and acceptance phases.

  • Serve as the lead representative for controls systems during the review process for project procurements.

  • Evaluate proposed Alternative Technical Concepts submitted by contractor teams during project proposal phases.

  • Align project execution with established controls goals and technical requirements.

  • Provide oversight of design and construction activities related to controls systems, including detailed reviews and approval of submittals.

  • Coordinate controls integration across multiple projects to ensure system-wide consistency and compatibility.

  • Manage interfaces between core programs and adjacent projects to avoid scope gaps or overlaps.

  • Review and approve designer deliverables throughout design stages to ensure alignment with technical scope, best practices, and applicable codes—providing a Professional Engineer’s record for each review.

  • Ensure quality and consistency in all delivered control system designs, regardless of the executing team.

  • Monitor the designer’s involvement during construction activities, including RFIs, shop drawings, material selections, mock-up reviews, and punch list development.

  • Ensure timely and cost-effective completion of design reviews in collaboration with all project stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Controls Engineer, ideally with large-scale airport or infrastructure projects.

  • Demonstrated experience programming Rockwell PLCs and HMI systems (required).

  • Familiarity with P&ID development, control system architectures (PLC/DCS), and related automation systems.

  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards including NEC, NESC, IEEE, PIP, and NFPA.

  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with a strong ability to collaborate across engineering and construction teams.
