Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer

Location: Mississauga, ON
    
Estimated Duration: Fulltime

This role will be based in Mississauga, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Perform engineering work following established procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines to execute assigned engineering work.

  • Become involved in conceptual, preliminary and/or detailed design phases to support CANDU and other Nuclear electrical systems and modifications.

  • Prepare technical documents, such as: engineering drawings (including GAs, DDs, EDs), change paper markups, calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, component specification sheets, commissioning specifications, etc.

  • Participate in review of interfacing discipline’s documentation.

  • Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement.

  • Interface and provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters.

  • Supervising, coordinating and reviewing the work of junior and assistant engineers/ designers; preparing estimates and monitoring schedules and assigns work to meet completion dates to team members.

  • Prepare scope of work and input to bid proposals.

  • Perform field walk-downs during different design phases and prepare Walkdown reports as required.

  • Assist field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc.

  • Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within given budget and schedule, and in good quality.

  • Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters.

The ideal candidate:

  • Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.

  • 15+ years of related work experience in electrical engineering and power systems design in the nuclear industry.

  • Experience with medium voltage and low voltage power distribution systems, including preparation of Single Line diagrams, Elementary Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams and schedules, and calculation of power demand/ electrical load lists.

  • Experience with transformer sizing, cable sizing, circuit breaker sizing calculations.

  • Site experience in construction, or commissioning of electrical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset.

  • Already is or is willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).

  • Familiar with specifying and procurement support for electrical equipment such as Transformers, MCCs, low voltage distribution load centres, UPS systems including rectifiers and inverters and Diesel Generators (emergency and standby), power and control and instrumentation cables.

  • Experience in modelling electrical power systems and use of analysis functions in ETAP, or other similar software program is an asset.

  • Shall have fundamental technical knowledge to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.

  • Shall have excellent communication and technical writing skills and good ability to interact and communicate (both verbal and in writing) professionally with colleagues, clients and contractors.

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Good knowledge and experience of CANDU nuclear electrical power systems.

  • Good working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as of CSA 22.1, Canadian Electrical Code Part I and The Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC).
